Behind the Lines: Understanding NSPS, ACSM, and Their Role in Land Surveying

NSPS stands for National Society of Professional Surveyors. There is also a Missouri Society of Professional Surveyors (MSPS) as well as a Saint Louis chapter. In 2012, the NSPS merged into the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping.

All of these organizations strive to keep their surveyors up-to-date on current legislation, technological advancements, case study, etc. These organizations also offer surveyors the chance to collaborate and network, essential to the success of any professional surveying company.

Like other professionals, Cardinal Surveying and Mapping strives to improve our team, business and stay relevant in the fast changing and modern world.

These organizations are also heavily involved in state licensing. To practice land surveying, you need either a state license or to be directly under the supervision a licensed surveyor. These organizations help with tests, continuing education (CE) and the general welfare for our licensees. These organizations hold us and the industry accountable for ensuring that the public continues to benefit from having professionals who are knowledgeable.
