Survey Field Crew Member
Full-Time | Cottleville, Missouri | No Surveying Experience Required
Cardinal Surveying & Mapping is hiring a full-time Survey Field Crew Member to join our team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, staying active, and wants to learn the land surveying profession. Previous surveying experience is not required.
As a Survey Field Crew Member, you’ll assist with field surveying projects in residential, commercial, and rural environments throughout the greater St. Louis area. The position involves hands-on outdoor work and supporting the Survey Crew Chief with field measurements, equipment, property research, and other surveying tasks.
What You’ll Do
- Work outdoors in residential, commercial, and rural environments in varying weather conditions
- Assist the Survey Crew Chief with general field surveying activities
- Use basic field tools including tape measures, shovels, machetes, and standard surveying equipment
- Walk and stand for extended periods, typically covering 2 to 5+ miles per day
- Carry surveying equipment and materials weighing up to 20 pounds
- Record numbers, measurements, and other field information clearly and accurately
- Help maintain surveying equipment and field materials
- Travel with the crew to project locations throughout the St. Louis region
What We’re Looking For
- No previous land surveying experience required
- Valid driver’s license
- Reliable transportation
- Clear and legible handwriting, particularly when recording numbers and measurements
- Ability to perform physical outdoor work
- Ability to work in varying weather and terrain
- Smoke-free, including vaping products
- Work boots with ankle support required; steel-toe boots are not necessary
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Applicants may be required to pass a drug screening
Schedule
This is a full-time position with 40+ hours worked over four days.
Field crews typically leave our Cottleville office at 6:30 AM and return between approximately 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
Employees are assigned one weekday off on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.
We typically do not work weekends.

Field Survey Crew Chief
Full-Time | Cottleville, Missouri | 2+ Years Surveying Experience
Cardinal Surveying & Mapping is seeking an experienced Field Survey Crew Chief to join our team.
This position is designed for a surveying professional who can confidently lead a field crew and perform a variety of land surveying work with accuracy, efficiency, and professionalism.
The Crew Chief will manage and perform field surveying activities for residential, commercial, construction, and land development projects throughout the greater St. Louis area.
Types of Projects
Our Field Survey Crew Chiefs may work on:
- Commercial surveys
- ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys
- Residential boundary surveys
- Surveyor’s Real Property Reports
- House staking
- Construction layout
- Topographic surveys
- Other residential and commercial surveying projects
What You’ll Do
- Lead and coordinate field surveying activities
- Perform accurate field measurements and data collection
- Operate total stations, GPS/RTK systems, and data collectors
- Review project information before and during fieldwork
- Maintain accurate field notes and project documentation
- Direct and assist field crew members
- Communicate field conditions and project information with office staff
- Help ensure projects are completed accurately and efficiently
- Safely operate company vehicles when required
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of land surveying experience
- Experience operating total stations
- Experience with GPS/RTK surveying systems
- Experience using data collectors
- Valid driver’s license
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to lead and work effectively with a field crew
- Smoke-free, including vaping products
- Work boots with ankle support required; steel-toe boots are not necessary
- May be required to drive a company vehicle
- Applicants may be required to pass a drug screening
Preferred Qualifications
- Drone/UAS surveying experience
Drone experience is a plus but is not required.

Field crews typically leave our Cottleville office at 6:30 AM and return between approximately 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
Employees are assigned one weekday off on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.
